    ImperialBB Feature Spotlight: The Portal

    2010 - 02.26

Ok, anyone who knows me well, knows that there is one feature in ImperialBB that I’m particularly proud of. The Portal.

I programmed the Portal shortly after I joined the team in 2007. When I joined, the Portal already had a file and a template in SVN, but it had zero functionality. It just displayed the template, which was the base for what the Portal was supposed to look like.

So, I decided to go ahead and build it based on the specs given to me by others, as well as some of my own ideas. And I’m not afraid to say that, it’s by far one of my top 3 favorite features in ImperialBB. Big thanks to Mike, Christian, and James for letting me go completely apeshit with it. :D

Anyway, this blog post is going to explain the in and outs of the Portal. How it works, and what you can do with it if you have the knowledge.

    Skinning for ImperialBB

    2010 - 02.02

As promised, here is a post about skinning for ImperialBB.

Since I assumed the position of ImperialBB Designer several months ago, I’ve been neck deep in more CSS and HTML than I’ve ever been in my entire online career. This was a completely new experience for me. The only thing I’ve ever done in the past 6 years, as far as skinning is concerned, is color changes, HTML changes, and very few graphics here and there to things that were already pre-existing.

I was never extremely good at the graphic aspect, and I still don’t think I am. The postbit buttons in ImperialBB v1 are of my design, and I’m very critical of them. The rest of the team enjoy them, but every time I look at them, I find some other small flaw that just irritates the hell out of me. Those are going to be revisited today, because I have this little problem where I can’t stand to have something I’ve done be less than perfect.

    Huge ImperialBB Update!

    Stuff to look forward too…

    2010 - 01.12

k, so, I’ve been ranting a lot lately. Let’s break that chain.

Here’s a list of stuff to look forward too from me!

    1. ImperialBB Development Update. The contents of which will be determined after our staff meeting.
    2. ImperialBB 1.0.0 Alpha unveiling. Within the next month or two we plan to upgrade the community at www.imperialbb.com to ImperialBB 1.0.0 Alpha 1. (Barring any unforeseen issues, of course).
    3. Final Fantasy Crystal Cosmo getting content. A few of us at FFCC have been assigned a game to start writing content for. So expect to see some games pop up soon!
    4. The Glass Prison’s Future. I’ve got a few more plans for TGP. I can’t enact those until I get some money first.

So, there, some cool stuff to look forward too. :)

    2009 - 10.07

    ’sup peeps.

So today, I woke up, and felt the usual blah, it’s too early, fuck my life, etc. etc. I started looking around at my sites dreading the eventual work I have to redo on the ImperialBB Skin due to my fail hard drive.

I was browsing FFCC and saw a post about DeviantART… so I checked out my users profiles and saw that DeviantART has the most sexy profiles of all time…

So, I decided I was going to rewrite the vBulletin Profiles using some design concepts from DA. Then I thought to myself… why do FFCC’s Profiles super sexy? I’m designing ImperialBB from the ground up, this is something it needs.

After that my short attention span kicked in and I went to the Store. The whole way there I’m coming up with more and more ideas for the profiles. Inspiration slapped me in the face with a huge brick, and as soon as I got home, I started designing… and haven’t stopped until just now so I could eat lunch and write this.

I must say, including what I did before my HDD failure, this has to be my personal best work. All of the CSS was written myself and the page layout was designed myself. You can see DeviantART influence, but the HTML and CSS was written from the ground up and there are big differences in layout.

All I can say is… I can’t wait to show the rest of the team. I put my heart and soul into getting this done to look absolutely amazing… I hope everybody else likes it.

    When I get inspired… I get inspired.
