This is all fine and dandy, and something I personally advocate. All software vendors should investigate ways to increase productivity and maximize output.

But, one thing to remember, is that software development is a balance between Development Speed and Development Efficiency.

You cannot increase one, without decreasing the other.

If you increase Development Speed, than Efficiency is going to decrease because there isn’t enough time to fully test the code like you’re supposed too.

If you increase Development Efficiency, than Speed is going to decrease because you’re spending more time coding and testing the code before each release.

If the balance between Speed and Efficiency is leaning, then it will show and it will have an adverse effect on your product.

Right now, vBulletin is leaning to the Speed side of the balance, which is adversely affecting the Efficiency of Development and which in turn affects the quality of the Brand, Software, as well as the Credibility of the company as a whole.

I publically voiced my vote of confidence for them a little while ago, when I was sick of the constant negativity – I’d hoped that my faith in them would be worth while… but the more I see of the “gold” product, the more disappointed and dejected I become

Yeah, people who pull the “long membership” card are assanine. Their not better than anyone just because they’ve been there longer than (for example) someone who’s been there for a day; granted, they MIGHT know more.. But in ANY project, it should be equal-opportunity.

I agree, I’ve had vB for a number of years. Loyal customer?
Will I stick with it on my site.. Probably. While I dont agree with the price increases of vB, it was to be expected. Bigger company, usually means bigger prices.. Hell, fuel prices go up,, I complain, but I still buy.. I could ride a bike or the bus.. But nope.. I continue dumping fuel into my truck..

Chances are these “lifelong” members you see are snotty teenagers that have nothing better to do, then browse the net looking for things to complain about..

Agree entirely, this applies in a number of other situations both online and offline. Take Microsoft for example, I couldn’t march up to them and say I’ve been using Windows since Win 95, therefore I should get to have a say on all things Windows.

Or a breakfast cereal, just because you’ve eaten it all your life doesn’t mean you get to have a say on recipe changes or how much they charge… FFS.
